Origin/Class: Bilgewater – Glutton – Bruiser
Tahm Kench is a powerful 5-cost frontline disruptor in TFT Set 16. With the ability to devour enemy champions, disable key threats, and deal sustained damage based on maximum HP, he functions as both a tank and a hard-CC control unit. Thanks to the Glutton trait, Tahm Kench can completely remove a target from combat for several seconds, allowing him to protect your backline while dismantling the enemy formation.
His strength lies in neutralizing the most dangerous enemies, soaking damage while digesting them, and unleashing a devastating finisher once he spits them back out.
Unlock Requirement:
Activate 4 Bilgewater – Glutton.
Tahm Kench gains bonus power: longer swallow duration, stronger spit damage, and heals whenever he successfully devours a target.
✅ HOW TO UNLOCK TAHM KENCH – TFT SET 16
Tahm Kench is an Unlockable Champion, meaning he does not appear in your shop until you meet his activation condition. To use him during a match, you must satisfy the Region Unlock Requirement based on one of his traits.
Tahm Kench has 3 Traits:
- Bilgewater
- Glutton (special trait for “Devour” champions)
- Bruiser
However, his unlock condition is tied specifically to Bilgewater, not Glutton or Bruiser.
⭐ 🔓 Unlock Condition for Tahm Kench
Spend 500 Silver Snakes
Buy it for 500 Silver Serpents on the black market. Bilgewater champions will receive Silver Serpents each fight, and after taking down enemies, use the Silver Serpents to trade for exclusive Bilgewater champion rewards on the black market.
→ Activate 4 Bilgewater
When your team reaches 4 Bilgewater, Tahm Kench becomes unlocked, meaning:
✔ He can now appear in the shop (as a normal 5-cost champion).
✘ If you don’t have 4 Bilgewater active → Tahm Kench will NEVER appear.
This works the same way as other Region-based unlockable champions in Set 16.
🎯 Important Notes:
✔ You only need to unlock once.
Once Tahm Kench appears in the shop and you purchase him, you do NOT need to keep 4 Bilgewater active.
✔ If you drop below 4 Bilgewater later, Tahm Kench remains playable
→ He just won’t appear again in the shop unless you reactivate 4 Bilgewater.
✔ He still follows normal 5-cost shop odds
Meaning:
- Level 7: low chance
- Level 8: good chance
- Level 9: best chance
📌 Simple Example
If you run these 4 Bilgewater units:
- Graves
- Miss Fortune
- Gangplank
- Illaoi
→ Tahm Kench becomes unlocked and can now show up in the shop.
Once you buy him → you can reduce back to 2–3 Bilgewater and continue playing normally.
🐸 Why does Tahm Kench require unlocking?
Because he is a Glutton champion capable of fully devouring units — an extremely powerful form of crowd-control. Riot restricts early access by requiring a Bilgewater setup.
ABILITY: DEVOURING DREAD
Mana: 0/70
Tahm Kench opens his enormous jaws and devours an enemy, removing them from the battlefield temporarily.
The ability has three main components:
(1) Swallow Whole — Full Devour
Tahm targets the nearest enemy (prioritizing dangerous or low-HP units) and:
- Swallows them for 2/2.5/4 seconds (scales with star level).
- The target cannot attack, cast, move, or receive buffs.
- Tahm takes reduced damage while holding the target.
(2) Digest — Damage Conversion
While the target is inside his belly, Tahm Kench digests them, dealing:
- % max HP true damage each second.
- Tahm heals for 20/25/40% of the damage dealt.
- If the devoured target is a tank, Tahm gains bonus Armor and Magic Resist while digesting.
(3) Spit Back — Devastating Release
When the timer ends or Tahm’s “stomach” is full, he spits the target out:
- Deals massive magic damage based on the HP he digested.
- Knocks down (stuns) the target for 1 second.
- If the target dies upon being spat out, Tahm triggers a shockwave that damages nearby enemies.
This makes Tahm Kench a disruptive monster capable of destroying carry units or frontline tanks alike.
